MLB Power Rankings: Week 2

Same deal as last week. Rank the teams from 1 to 30 with as little bias as possible (definitely not an easy task). 1: Rangers LW: 2 18-3 is amazing, even against the struggling Red Sox. 2: Tigers LW: 1 Only fell due to the Rangers looking amazing. 3: Cardinals LW: 3 Quietly skating to a 9-3 record. 4: Nationals LW: 12 Ian Desmond is playing stellar at short. 5: Yankees LW: 4 Somebody get Jeter a long-term contract! 6: Dodgers LW: 11 Not higher than this due to the dearth of games against my bottom 5 teams. 7: Rays LW: 6 Still in a little bit of a rut to start the year. 8: Braves LW: 18 Playing great outside of the first series versus the Mets. 9: Blue Jays LW: 8 A team that should make the playoffs, but probably won't because 4 of the top 12 teams are in their division. 10: Diamondbacks LW: 5 A little too high on the D-backs last week. 11: Mets LW: 14 Mets coming down to earth some, and anyone can contend in the wide-open NL East (where the Phillies are last)!

Baseball Picks April 13-19 Week 2

This post will have my baseball picks this week. 2012: 19-23 -2.76 units April: 19-23 -2.76 units April 19th: Yet another 1-run loss in extras, this time on a bad call. Just fade me. But if I win all 3 of these, I'll be back in the black... Twins +195 -1 unit They've won every time this series I didn't pick them. Dodgers +125 +1.25 units Let's try this again... best record in the NL *should* be good at +125, right? Rays +109 +1.09 units Really couldn't think of a good third pick so I chose this. April 18th: I think I'll call the Texas game in the ninth considering the 13 run lead. Picks: Texas +116 @ Red Sox +1.16 units Won't mess with a good thing. Dodgers +160 @ Brewers -1 unit I'll take the best record in baseball +160. Mets +120 @ Braves -1 unit The Mets have the Braves' number so far. April 17th: See what happens when I tell you to fade me? Good things. Going against 3 AL East teams today. Twins +210 @ Yankees -1 unit Twins

College Football Power Ratings Review

Last August, before I had this blog, I made pre-season college football power ratings. I have decided to revisit these ratings to see how I did. I'll score it by the following system: Teams correctly picked in top 25: 1 point Teams correctly picked in top 10: 2 points Teams correctly picked within 10 spots: 2 points Teams correctly picked within 5 spots: 3 points Teams correctly picked within 3 spots: 4 spots I'll use the final Sagarin ratings to determine how my ratings did. So here's my preseason ratings with the Sagarin predictor rating in parentheses: 1. South Carolina (13) 1 2. Stanford (5) 12 3. Florida State (19) 1 4. Virginia Tech (27) 0 5. Alabama (2) 12 6. Baseball Picks April 6-12 Week 1

I'll use this post to post my baseball picks for this week. 2012: 11-10 +1.31 units April: 11-10 +1.31 units April 12th: Phillies +105 vs. Marlins +1.05 units Diamondbacks -130 @ Padres +0.77 units Angels -145 @ Twins -1 unit Don't get why the Phillies are home underdogs to the Ozzie-less Marlins. I'll continue to fade the overrated Padres. The Twins are playing AAA ball, as I saw in person at Camden Yards last week. MLB power ratings coming tomorrow. April 11th: Mets +105 vs. Nationals -1 unit Diamondbacks +105 @ Padres -1 unit Royals +108 @ Athletics -1 unit Mets have Santana, who is slightly better than Strasburg, and the Mets are the hotter team. Still not understanding why the Padres are so inflated. Royals over the A's for the same reasons I put yesterday. April 10th: Cardinals +100 @ Reds +1 unit Royals +105 @ Athletics +1.05 units Pirates +210 @ Dodgers -1 unit Lohse should work his magic for the Cards again. A's have Cespedes and no one el

MLB season predictions

Hi again! I've taken a little hiatus but I'm back. I hope it's not too late for some MLB predictions but here we go... AL East 1 Yankees 97-65 2 Rays 94-68 3 Blue Jays 89-73 4 Red Sox 82-80 5 Orioles 64-98 Shields, Moore and Price anchor a solid Rays lineup that will keep the AL East race interesting into the last week of the season. Cano will have a monster year, and the Yankees will take the division by a few games. Romero and Joey Bats will lead the Jays in a climb up the standings that will continue for a few years. The Red Sox will have bullpen issues and not gel very well under Bobby Valentine. Finally, Mark Reynolds will have a nice year for the O's but it won't be enough to compete in the toughest division in baseball. AL Central 1 Tigers 99-63 2 Royals 80-82 3 Twins 75-87 4 Indians 74-88 5 White Sox 70-92 The Tigers will run away with this division as expected. Brennan Boesch will breakout, and the 3-4 combo of Cabrera and Fielder will be dead
