Now that the regular season is over, I've decided to briefly look back on my preseason win totals picks. They overall went quite well: of my 16 picks, I won 9, pushed 3 and lost 4. A few picks came down to the last week- most notably ULM and Ole Miss. ULM missed a 33 yard field goal as time expired that would've hit the over, and Ole Miss' collapse against Mississippi State allowed me to win instead of push. Here's the full summary:
Win: Florida State, Purdue, Wake Forest, San Jose State, Liberty, Mississippi, Michigan, Nebraska, Western Kentucky
Push: ULM, Virginia Tech, Kansas
Loss: Akron, Baylor, Oklahoma, Western Michigan
Last week, my one pick was Baylor +9 in the Big 12 championship game, which hit in overtime.
Kansas State vs. Navy (Liberty Bowl)
I'm a bit skeptical of Navy, the Midshipmen have certainly had a nice season but I think that their defense has been suspect at times. Kansas State had a solid first season under Chris Klieman, knocking off Oklahoma. I think that the Wildcats are a top 25 team while Navy isn't that close, I have K-State as a decent favorite here.
Kansas State +2.5 -106 (3 units)
Illinois vs. California (Redbox Bowl)
I may actually be going to this game, it's quite convenient for Cal fans in the Bay Area. I don't think the Golden Bears are that much better than Illinois though- the Illini had a weird finish to their season getting blown out by Northwestern, but proved to be a middle of the pack power conference team. I have Cal favored by a little less than a field goal.
Illinois +6.5 -101 (1 unit)
Kent State vs. Utah State (Frisco Bowl)
Kent State is one of the more anonymous bowl teams this year, while the national media at least knows about Utah State from QB Jordan Love. It was a rocky first season for Gary Andersen's return to Logan, and I have questions about a Utah State team that was inconsistent at times down the stretch.
Kent State +6.5 -103 (1 unit)
